If you are planning to buy a printer, the first decision you need to make is whether to buy an ink-jet printer or a laser printer, as both have their respective advantages and disadvantages.
Some people are of the opinion that a laser printer ideal for business needs whereas for personal or home based needs one should go for a ink-jet printer. But before arriving at such a conclusion, one should consider all the pros and cons of both types of printers.
A laser printer is ideal for big organisations where there’s a significant amount of printing required on daily basis as laser printers are capable of producing more pages in comparison to an ink-jet, which needs toner and cartridges to be re-filled more often. On other hand, an ink- jet printer is much cheaper in comparison to laser printers, and is smaller in size.
Apart from choosing between an ink-jet and laser printer, you would also need to determine the type of prints you want - black & white or colour – as laser printers tend to cope with colour more easily. You also should take into account the total number of prints your office is using on average during a working day.
Regardless of which you choose, another important point to keep in mind is the after sales support that accompanies the product after buying it.

With innovative technology and design today, you have a choice to opt for a multi use or multi-purpose printer. As well as printing, these also have the ability to scan documents and photocopy pages. With increased competition from various top manufacturing companies to capture a larger share of the printer market, a customer has many options. One can select a printer, which is not only multipurpose but is also extremely cost effective.
While such a printer provides all the facilities of a conventional printer, it also helps you scan documents and also store them in a digital form in your computer, making your office paperless - a goal that every office wants to achieve to become more cost effective and decrease their carbon footprint.
The copiers available in these new printers helps you in creating multiple copies of any documents whereas keeping documents in digital form saves space in the office and allows better use of the space available.
Printers today are necessary for any business, and with so many functions at your disposal, you should be able to find a printer suitable for your needs. Also consider the cost and availability of its accessories such as ink refills, toner, paper, etc.

Computer printers, which are commonly known simply as printers, function primarily as local computer peripherals and are usually linked to a computer through a printer cable.
A printer has the ability to produce a hard copy. These hard copies have various forms, such as fax pages, computer printouts, continuous printed tapes, and so on.
Some printers can be connected to other devices like digital cameras, scanners etc. by an interface whereas some are coalesced with other devices ranging from fax machines to scanners in a single comprehensive unit. Such printers that incorporate non-printing features along with the usual functions of a printer are termed as “Multifunction printers” (MFPs) or ‘all-in-one printers’.
A computer printer is specifically designed so that it can carry out low-volume and short-turnaround printing functions.
Charles Babbage is credited with designing the first computer printer in the 19th century; in this case, the printer being a mechanically driven apparatus for his “Difference Engine” (a mechanical digital calculator). Chester Carlson’s invention - a dry printing process - served as the basis for the advent of laser printers. Remington-Rand developed the first high-speed printer in 1953. Gary Stark weather, an engineer with the Xerox Corporation, developed the first laser printer named “EARS” by adding a laser beam to the original mechanism.
It was 1976 when the first inkjet printer appeared. The year 1977 marked the appearance of the first Xerographic laser printer product “the Xerox 9700 Electronic Printing System”. This was followed by the first high-speed laser printer and significantly, the first one to merge electro photography. The first 600*600 dots per inch resolution laser printer system was designed and marketed as the “Laser Jet 4” by Hewlett Packard in the year 1992.

A laser printer uses a laser beam for printing of documents unlike an ink-jet printer, which uses a set of set of ink balls printed on a document. Therefore, they provide more clarity in any type of printed documents when compared to even a high end ink-jet printer.
Let’s discuss some more advantages of laser printers:
• Printing speed - In comparison to an ink jet printer, a laser printer can come out with more pages.
• Low cost of prints - Laser printers can print more pages in comparison to an ink jet printer that need regular cartridges and cost more.
• Silent operation - Laser printers often work much more silently when compared to an ink jet printer, thereby providing you noise free environment.
• Better quality - In comparison to even high end ink-jet printers, laser printers have a definite advantage in quality printing.
If you are planning to buy a laser printer, keep in mind that it should be easy to use. Also, do the mathematics to see that the cost being incurred while buying such an expensive piece of equipment is justified in the long run through less maintenance and low cost per page.

Do you ever wonder how a printer imprints your digitised documents to the desired paper? Well the answer lies in the type of printer that you are using! There are various types of printers available in the market from dot matrix, daisy wheel and impact printers to photo printers, ink-jet and laser printers.
The most common ones are probably the ink-jet and laser printers. Each of them uses a different technology. Let’s discuss how these two really do the job for you:
We’ll start with ink-jet printers. Ink-jet printers use a technology in which tiny balls of ink are sprayed directly onto the paper. As the ink is coming in direct contact with the paper, they don’t need any form of cartridge or toner to be attached. The key benefit of this type of printer is that its cost is much less as compared to even a low end laser printer. It takes less space, but prints may not be of high quality.
While laser printers are expensive compared to conventional ink-jet printers, the technology used by these printers is far more advanced than ink-jet printers. This printer works on similar lines to a photocopier where the computer creates the image and etches it by using a laser beam rather than using a mirror and the magic moving bar of light you see whenever you try to photocopy your face; the result is far better print quality and cost effective in the long run. These printers are beneficial for those who have a large printing need on a day to day basis. Their printing capacity in comparison to ink-Jet printers is far more and they also require fewer re-fills.

With the advent of technology, the printer are no longer limited to just working with computers but can interface with many storage devices like memory cards, pen drives, external hard disks, image capturing devices such as digital cameras and various other storage devices to produce text as well as picture documents for both personal and business needs.
When planning to buy a printer for business purposes, you should consider several features and check the specification as this is a device that could cater for all your workstations at your office via networking. Here are some points to help you select the right printer:
1. Your day to day printing demands: Try to estimate your daily printing demand
2. The budget you are willing to spend on your printer
3. Pinpoint your major requirement: Would it be colour prints or would black & white do?
4. Assess the quality of prints required. For example, if you need presentation slides, they need more colour and clarity.
While keeping in mind some of the points mentioned above, also check the warranty available. We recommend that you keep the printer switched off while not in use but there are various printers available in the market, which automatically goes on a low power standby when not in use.

In today’s world, multi-purpose printers are helping businesses all around the globe in reducing cost on their printing and scanning services. Nowadays, a printer is supposed to be more than simply a device that produces paper copies of digitised documents. They can now perform scanning and copying of pictures, slides and various other types of data, in this technological age, they are multi purposes devices.
The new age multipurpose printer of today is certainly the need of the hour. It has many advantages such as:
• Cost saving: You don’t have to buy a different printer, scanner and copier
• Space savings as one machine does all the work
• Saves on time as it has ready interface with your computer
• Low on power consumption as it is multipurpose; you don’t need different machines for different jobs
• Hassle free working due to less wires and plug-ins
Before buying a printer also look for its feasibility in terms of networking to your entire set of computer systems in the office as just one printer may well take care of all the printing needs of the entire office.
Opting for a multipurpose printer is certainly an intelligent decision for your business. The information mentioned above would come in handy in your printer selection.
